Matt Harvey gets another MLB chance with Orioles

The Dark Knight returns, one more time.

Former Mets All-Star pitcher Matt Harvey has earned another comeback bid after the Baltimore Orioles selected his contract for 2021 and added him to their 40-man roster.

Harvey, who was traded by the Mets to the Cincinnati Reds in May 2018, posted a 5.40 ERA over 10 innings in three spring-training starts for the Orioles.

“I’m not throwing 100 [mph] anymore, so I don’t quite have the hop and all that stuff like I used to,” Harvey, who underwent thoracic outlet surgery in 2016, said Saturday after a spring start against the Yankees. “But I think really, digging down and actually pitching is kind of what I’ll have to do and, you know, I can still low-to-mid-90s, which I feel definitely is playable.

“Just have to be a little more fine with location and really just kind of learn how to pitch all over again and not just throw.”

The 31-year-old righty also has had stints with the Angels and the Royals since leaving New York, going 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA in seven games (four starts) last season with Kansas City.

If Harvey maintains a spot in Baltimore’s rotation, the Orioles are scheduled to visit Citi Field on May 11 and May 12.
