Teachers’ union boss Randi Weingarten’s portrait of hypocrisy

What a portrait in hypocrisy: American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten runs a union whose branches have blocked school reopenings all across the nation, supposedly for fear of COVID. Yet there she is, about to sit down for drinks and maybe even food with a pack of pals, all far closer than the 6 feet of social distancing required by the guidelines she claims to care about.

Kids in many schools that have opened must remain masked and at least 6 feet apart, even though data show they tend not to spread the disease nor get sick from it.

Why, parents are asking, is sitting shoulder-to-shoulder OK for Randi & Co. (she even tweeted the photo out herself!) but not for kids and teachers in schools?

“Your gall is astounding. Millions of kids haven’t seen a classroom in year,” read one tweet. “So the students your teachers teach sit in hybrid classes while you and your ownership class friends [are] living the high life?” read another.

This isn’t her only hypocrisy, of course. Notably, she recently blasted those pushing for school reopenings as “the ownership class,” which supposedly wants to “take that ladder of opportunity away from those who do not have it.” In fact, it’s school closings that remove opportunity, especially from lower-income kids that can’t afford alternatives to union-dominated public schools.

And Randi and her union aren’t really worried about safety, they just don’t want their members to have to return to schools. This picture is basically an admission.
