Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Monday accused federal authorities of “trying to frame me” — and alleged that he’s under investigation because of his work for former President Donald Trump, according to a report.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Giuliani said that the officials targeting him “are beyond the ability to control their rational thinking or their decency, and they have a serious, serious ethical issue, driven by Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“They are trying to frame me,” Giuliani said.
“They are trying to find something they can make into a crime, some technical violation, some mistake I made.”
He added: “They’ll take anything.”
Giuliani also accused the feds of illegally leaking information about the probe and described the FBI raid on his Manhattan apartment last week as “out of control.”
“Usually a person who has been a former assistant U.S. attorney, a U.S. attorney, a mayor, the associate attorney general, usually they receive a subpoena — not have their home raided,” Giuliani said.
“The only lawyers they raid are lawyers for Donald Trump. I can’t think of another lawyer that has been raided other than lawyers for Trump.”
Giuliani said the agents showed him a search warrant that “sought the electronics in my apartment and purported to be about an alleged violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, FARA, for failure to file as a foreign agent on behalf of an unnamed Ukrainian official.”
The official at issue is former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, who was named in the warrants used to search Giuliani’s Upper East Side apartment and his law office, a source familiar with the matter told The Post last week.
Giuliani denied any wrongdoing and said that because he worked for Trump, he referred any potential Ukrainian clients to fellow lawyer Victoria Toensing, calling that “the safest thing to do.”
A spokesperson for Toensing’s law firm said, “Everything that Mr. Giuliani said is absolutely correct, however, no clients were ever retained by the firm.”
“There were never any representations, there was no trip to Ukraine and no engagements ever occurred,” the spokesperson added.
On the same day that Giuliani’s apartment and law office were raided, the FBI visited Toensing’s Washington, DC-area home and seized a cellphone but left without searching the place, a source familiar with the events previously told The Post.
A spokesperson for her law firm also said at the time that “Ms. Toensing was informed that she is not a target of the investigation.”
The Manhattan US Attorney’s Office declined to comment.
