Inside Big Sean’s $12M Malibu mansion he shares with his mom

Big Sean’s mom is the houseguest who never left — but the “I don’t f— with you” singer loves it.

Myra Anderson moved into her son’s Beverly Hills mansion in October 2019 and decided to stay till Thanksgiving — then Christmas — then his March 25, 2020 birthday — then till the pandemic blew over. And, well…

“Probably about a year and a half later, my mom is still here with me. You know what I’m saying? Staying at my house with me — and it’s been beautiful,” he told Architectural Digest in a tour of his seven-bed, 7 ½-bath Mediterranean home in May.

It’s not clear why Big Sean, whose real name is Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, listed his mansion with a nightclub for $12 million in March. But he hasn’t yet secured a buyer for the terracotta-roofed home, according to Realtor.com.

In an apparent bid to get more eyes on his house, which formerly belonged to Slash from Guns n’ Roses, he gave Architectural Digest a tour last week, and the interiors are even more gorgeous than listing photos showed.

“I am definitely somebody who has been influenced and impacted by my OGs and the people around me, but none greater than my strong, beautiful, black mom,” he said in a Sean Anderson Foundation mental health awareness video, part of a series he is releasing with his mom this month.

The 11,000-square-foot Beverly Hills home, which is a no-shoes household, is characterized by the mindfulness Big Sean learned from his mother. He “fung-shued” the home from its “darker Gothic tone” when it was owned by Guns n’ Roses rock-and-roller Slash, he told Architectural Digest.

His two-story foyer has orchids, a dragon for the year he was born (1988), copper rings “to enhance the energy” and a neon art piece that reads “One Man Can Change the World” after his song with John Legend and Kanye about his grandmother, he said in the tour video.

The living room has a white oak wood flooring, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and a malachite stone on a pedestal, which Big Sean believes brings harmony to the house, he said in the video tour.

“I’m into the right stones and what they do and the function of them all, so you’ll see them placed throughout the whole house,” he told Architectural Digest.

The living room leads through a “freaky” stained glass window pocket door installed by Slash to a family room, which Big Sean said is his mom’s favorite spot — and is where the pair recorded their mental health awareness videos.

The living room also has oversized arched window doors, a wet bar and a K. Kawai mini grand piano, where Big Sean practices for piano lessons, which he recently began, he said. The room has tan couches with yellow pillows and white chairs with blue pillows.

“Every — down to the color of the candles, the color of the pillows, you know, I did all of this… based on energy. And this is a comfortable spot. This is where we kick it at,” he told Architectural Digest.

The chef’s kitchen has seamless push-open cabinets, a large window added by Big Sean, two refrigerators (one for drinks), two islands and a double Viking oven, which Big Sean told Architectural Digest he doesn’t really use. But might use the kitchen to make green teas, which he drinks in the evenings, his mom said

The home’s infamous nightclub was part of the house under Slash, and Big Sean kept it all black, even replacing furniture with the same couches Slash had — just new ones “because I don’t know what… he was doing down here,” he told Architectural Digest.

The club has a “completely sanitized” stripper pole, a DJ booth, a disco ball, blackout curtains, a neon “Don life” sign and silver skull fixtures on the walls from Slash, the tour revealed.

The gym, which is in what used to be a garage, has photos of Arnold Schwarzenegger for motivation. It has a smiley face rug, six pieces of equipment and a full set of weights, the tour showed. Big Sean has been focusing on his physical health recently, he shared on Instagram.

He kept his bedroom private, perhaps in respect to sacred sleep space, which he and his mom emphasize in their videos, where they recommend cool, dark rooms to promote restful sleep and a healthy circadian rhythm. Big Sean said he doesn’t follow all these tips and usually stays awake too late.

But he did show the living area of his bedroom suite, which has a balcony, a television, a large sofa, more copper rings, a massage chair from his ex, singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko and a vision board.

The vision board appears to have an entire section dedicated to tech companies including Tesla, Uber, Ember and Wheels. It also has pictures of a Men’s Health magazine, a pair of dolphins, coins, the earth and flowers.

“You have to learn to focus on what it is you’re going after… you have to be strong and focused — laser-focused — on what it is that you are intending, and, yes, and then you vibrate with it, and that’s when you will attain it,” she said in their mental health video.

Behind the couch are three mirrored closets and a set of four closets containing his t-shirt collection, including a “Public enemy” and an “NWO” t-shirt.

He also has a walk-in closet with almost 200 pairs of shoes, plus his clothes and jewelry — most are in storage because it’s too much stuff, he told Architectural Digest.

The library has large display shelves with books he loved, including “Michael Jackson: All the Songs,” “The Queen Next Door,” “Detroit Graffiti,” and self-help books like “Ask and It Is Given.” This area also has a gallery of about 20 music record plaques.

In his favorite part of the house, Big Sean converted a bedroom into a recording studio where he produced “Dark Sky Paradise,” “I Decided” and “Detroit 2.” The soundproofed room has a sound system, recording equipment, a keyboard, a microphone and another neon sign that says “Don Life” named for his 2020 song.

The window out of the recording studio has a view of his first apartment from when he moved to L.A. from Detroit, and it makes him grateful, he said — but gratitude is something instilled into him by his mom, who keeps a gratitude journal or, as she calls it, a “deep reverence journal.”

“I remember looking out of the window in my apartment into the Hills, and being like, I got to get a house in the Hills one day,” he said. “It really, really is one of the most surreal moments to realize that I’m actually here.”

Big Sean, 32, most recently joined Sada Baby in “Little While” with Hit-Boy. He released “Detroit 2” in September 2020, in which he turned heads with “Wolves” featuring Post Malone, “Body Language” with Ty Dolla $ign and “Lithuania” featuring Travis Scott.

The rapper and singer has been known for his relationships with Ariana Grande and the late Naya Rivera, who died in a drowning accident on Lake Piru last year. He was most recently known to be dating R&B singer Jhené Aiko, though in 2019 she confirmed that the couple had broken up.

James Harris at the Agency has the listing.
