Boy falls through open subway grate on Brooklyn playground
An 11-year-old boy fell through an open subway grate at a Brooklyn playground Wednesday evening, law enforcement sources told The Post.
The boy dropped about 10 feet into the emergency exit at the Rudd Playground on Bushwick Avenue and Aberdeen Street in Bushwick, sources said.
The grate was accidentally left open, and the child landed in the Bushwick Avenue-Aberdeen Street L train station just after 5 p.m., according to sources.
Transit sources said the boy plummeted to a vent landing — and did not fall onto the tracks.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries, sources said.
“Our thoughts are with the child and his family,” MTA spokesman Andrei Berman said.
“We have dispatched a team to investigate what occurred and ensure the site is safe and secure. The safety of New Yorkers is always our top priority.”
