Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday ripped President Biden for ending his “Remain in Mexico” policy — claiming that the US is “being destroyed before our very eyes.”
Trump said Biden entered office with the “most secure border in history” but he “turned it into the greatest border disaster in history.”
“Our country is being destroyed before our very eyes,” the former president wrote in a statement sent out via email.
“The Biden Administration’s disastrous decision to formally end the Remain in Mexico policy is proof that their objective is to eliminate the U.S. border entirely and flood the country with so many illegal aliens that every community is overwhelmed,” Trump continued.
“Joe Biden is the first American President who doesn’t want America to be a nation at all,” he said.
The Biden White House on Tuesday formally ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which forced asylum-seekers to wait out the legal process for their claims on the southern side of the border.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a seven-page memo announcing the decision that the Migrant Protection Protocols Program — its formal name — “does not adequately or sustainably enhance border management in such a way as to justify the program’s extensive operational burdens and other shortfalls.”
Trump said Biden’s reversing his policies has left the border unguarded, controlled instead by “cartels, criminals, and coyotes.”
“Our border is now run by cartels, criminals, and coyotes. Illegal immigrants, gang members, and lethal drugs are pouring across like never before. Not only are illegal immigrants being caught and released, they are being put up in hotels at taxpayer expense,” the former president said.
Trump also lashed out at Biden last week in an interview on Newsmax for his handling of the southern border.
“If he would have done nothing, we would have had right now the strongest border in history,” Trump said in the interview.
“I had everything worked out with the other countries, whether it’s Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico,” Trump said. “And even Mexico, stay in Mexico. In other words, these people ought to stay in Mexico, and they couldn’t get into our country.”
“And he ended that. It’s just crazy what they did,” the former president said.
