Most people had not heard of Spider Tack before this week. Now, you can’t miss it. The Post’s Ken Davidoff asked Gerrit Cole plain and simple whether he has used it while pitching. Cole’s answer broke the internet, where he didn’t exactly say yes or no. It was quite bizarre and has led to lots of discussions surrounding foreign substances that pitchers have been using for a long, long time. There are lots of layers to this onion with Cole, pitchers and the entire game of baseball.
To talk all about it and the two Yankees wins over the Twins, we bring you a new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and Yankees legend Jeff Nelson, featuring a chat with the aforementioned Ken “Detective” Davidoff.
Pinstripe Pod Opening Segment with Chris, Jeff & Jake:
- COLE’S START/YANKS WIN: Yankees needed these wins. Cole was brilliant. Twins are a terrible team. Yankees have to beat the teams they should. They are playing terribly against the AL East.
- SUBSTANCES: Reacted to what Cole said in response to Davidoff on Spider Tack. Baseball’s constant changes need to stop. Nellie discusses mound visits during his career and his superstitions, including picking up gum from the field that came out of his mouth while he was pitching or sticking it to his hat.
