Four shot in Yonkers drive-by that may be gang related
Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in Yonkers that police said is likely gang-related.
Shots rang out at the corner of Elm and Oak streets at around 4:15 p.m., according to police. The four people hit were taken to local hospitals but all are expected to survive, with the most serious injury reported as critical chest trauma, city Police Commissioner John Mueller said in a statement.
Cops recovered a gun and had several people in custody they described as persons of interest late Thursday night, Mueller said. The shooting was caught on video and law enforcement is “actively developing information to identify the perpetrators and affect multiple arrests,” the statement said.
“We do believe this incident is related to gang activity and not a random act of violence,” Mueller said.
“The Yonkers Police will do everything in our power to deliver these violent actors into the Criminal Justice System,” he added.
“But that is no longer enough – the System must hold them accountable; the safety of our communities and residents depend on it.”
