Top toque Daniel Humm eats up deal for $14.5M NYC penthouse

Eating your vegetables pays off.

Chef Daniel Humm, who has transformed Eleven Madison Park — famously named one of the world’s best restaurants into a vegetable-only mecca, has just plunked down a ton of green to buy a Greenwich Village penthouse.

Humm paid $14.5 million for the four-bedroom, 4½-bath penthouse — half a million dollars over the duplex’s last asking price of $14 million, property records reveal. The property had been on the market for 275 days and was asking $18 million in 2019, according to StreetEasy.

Humm, 45, is dating billionaire philanthropist Laurene Powell, 57, who is one of the world’s richest women — having inherited a megafortune from her late husband, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

During the pandemic, Humm told Gimme about the feeling he had as he would bike from his Upper East Side home to his restaurant, which he had transformed into a commissary, and how he’d “never feel the same way about making lavender chicken” again.

Humm began working with Rethink Food, where he is a founding board member, to deliver 1 million meals to food-insecure New Yorkers.

On June 10, EMP reopened as a vegan-only restaurant, charging $335 per person. On the restaurant’s website, Humm writes that one in-restaurant meal allows him to provide five free meals to food-insecure New Yorkers.

His new digs are in a Neo-Georgian landmarked, 15-story building that dates to 1929. The 14th- and 15th-floor duplex features high ceilings, radiant heated bathroom floors, two woodburning fireplaces — and views of the Empire State Building.

There’s a living room with a fireplace, a dining room and an open, windowed chef’s kitchen — along with a home office and guest bedroom on the entry level floor. An open staircase leads to a private floor with more bedrooms, a living room and a playroom/den.

Listing broker Leonard Steinberg of Compass declined comment.
