An accused human smuggler transporting 12 illegal immigrants led cops on a high-speed chase before smashing his SUV in front of a Texas home.
Texas state troopers and US Border Patrol agents joined the 40-minute chase Saturday in McAllen on the US border with Mexico, authorities told Newsweek Monday.
Dramatic photos of the wreck posted on Twitter by Fox Los Angeles reporter Bill Melugin show the red SUV on the front lawn of the house after smashing through a fence — with the immigrants sitting on the lawn while cops appear to be questioning them.
“The smuggler bailed out of the vehicle and was caught by State Troopers & Border Patrol,” Melugin wrote. “He will be charged with felony evading & human smuggling.”
Police did not identify the accused smuggler, but the undocumented passengers were referred to Border Patrol for processing, Newsweek reported.
State police said the region has seen an uptick in human smuggling incidents this year, with more than 370 in the area since March, the outlet said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to a request from The Post on Monday for more information on the incident.
