A former high school student charged with opening fire on classmates at a Colorado charter school in 2019 has been convicted of all 46 counts against him, including murder.
Devon Erickson and a pal shot and killed one student and wounded eight others when they fired inside a darkened classroom at the STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7, 2019 — while their classmates watched “The Princess Bride.”
The verdict on Tuesday came less than 24 hours after closing arguments at the trial.
Erickson, now 20, teamed up with student Alec McKinney to plot the deadly shooting just three days before graduation.
McKinney, who was 16 at the time, pleaded guilty last year and testified against Erickson.
Kendrick Castillo, 18, who attempted to disarm Erickson when his gun jammed after several rounds, was killed in the shooting.
“I’m sure he was looking down today,” the dead teen’s father, John Castillo, told reporters. “I believe, I feel, he was with us. He was probably with those jurors making their decision.”
“This day was justice for him,” he said.
Erickson faces life in prison when he is sentenced in September.
McKinney can be paroled after 20 years due to his juvenille status.
