Sean Hannity blasts CNN’s Brian Stelter as ‘fake news Humpty Dumpty’
Fox News’ Sean Hannity ripped ratings-challenged CNN host Brian Stelter as a “failure” and a “fake news Humpty Dumpty” after the liberal journalist accused him of “corroding the public discourse.”
On his “Reliable Sources” show Sunday, Stelter claimed Hannity was stoking political divisions in the US.
Stelter, Hannity countered on his show Monday night, must be afraid of the “truth.”
”During his most recent show, Humpty was just apoplectic about my coverage of Joe Biden and his protectors in the media mob, and he had a bit of a meltdown over it,” Hannity said in the latest in long-running war of words between the two.
“His definition of poison must mean that I tell the truth, that his book and his show is a failure. Humpty not only claims to be the great arbiter of truth, but now according to him, he’s also the arbiter of what are acceptable opinions. Any sentiment or adjective that offends him is poison!” he added.
Hannity also targeted CNN President Jeff Zucker.
“Beginning in 2015, the network’s president, we call him affectionately ‘Mr. Potato Head’ Jeff Zucker, well, he cashed in on the left’s anti-Trump rage. As a result, facts and so-called journalism took a back seat as the anti-Trump radical conspiracy theories, the hoaxes, the rumors, the smears dominate coverage,” he said.
And he took aim at Stelter’s ratings, noting the show now only attracts a paltry 700,000 viewers, and the CNN host’s updated book, “Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth,” sold just 1,738 copies in its first week of publication.
“Mark my words, pro-stalker Humpty will never police my rhetoric, my opinions,” Hannity said.
Hannity initially lashed out at Stelter on Sunday night following the airing of Stelter’s “Reliable Sources.”
“Haha. This is awesome!!! Poison to Fake News Humpty Dumpty is the truth I reported this week that his highly promoted book ’BOMBED’ selling less than 1800 copies and he can’t even get 800,000 viewers to watch his socialist propaganda. Ha,” Hannity posted on Twitter.
Stelter told his viewers during Sunday’s show not to discount Hannity’s influence.
”Don’t get numb to this abusive language. Because it is through this language, it is through these insults, through these attacks that Hannity wields power,” he said.
Stelter said the Fox News host employs “dark, dire language” that is “fundamentally authoritarian” and portrays anyone who disagrees with him “as not legitimate, as not American.”
“It’s not opinion what Hannity does. … Hannity is spouting something else, Hannity is spouting poison,” Stelter said.
