MLB suspends Nationals’ Starlin Castro over alleged domestic violence incident

Nationals infielder Starlin Castro is stepping away from the field in relation to an alleged domestic violence incident earlier this summer, according to The Athletic.

Major League Baseball is placing Castro on administrative leave for seven days, reportedly beginning before the team’s Friday afternoon workout in DC.

Castro will still be paid during the leave, during which MLB and the Players Association will investigate the situation. The 31-year-old, who played the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Yankees, will not lose service time.

Administrative leave is standard in MLB when certain incidents occur and is not an admission of guilt on the player’s part.

The news comes amid the extension of Trevor Bauer’s administrative leave while the league and the Pasadena Police Department continue to investigate an allegation of sexual assault.
