Lorde ‘had to get’ an IV drip after day drinking with Seth Meyers
Lorde’s liver needed some help after filming this segment.
The pop star admitted that after she and Seth Meyers filmed the latest installment of his celebrity “Day Drinking” series together, she required an IV drip to get through the hangover. This episode was the first to air since the pandemic.
“To be honest, how hungover were you the next day?” Meyers, 47, asked the 24-year-old singer on Thursday’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers” of their recent “Day Drinking” session at Manhattan’s Zero Bond bar.
“I can’t look at an alcoholic drink ever again, it was insane,” she laughed. “You did kind of destroy me. And I had to get a very pop star thing: an IV drip came to my hotel and administered fluids to my corpse.”
The luxurious booze hound-helper did the trick, though, and ensured Lorde was in fighting shape for her performance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” the night after their bender.
“I watched that very nervous that I had somehow taken you out so late that you would not perform well, but you were wonderful on that show,” Meyers told the New Zealand native and “Royals” artist.
In addition to throwing back drinks last Monday — including a cocktail themed for the songwriter’s new album, “Solar Power” — the pair also spent the segment playing a New Zealand slang drinking game, painting the album cover for Lorde’s second album, “Melodrama,” guessed royal family member names and worked on Meyers’ pronunciation of Lorde’s birth name, Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor.
“I’m gonna make it my goal to learn your full name today,” the former “Saturday Night Live” writer told Lorde early on in the segment, promising to do a shot if and whenever he tries and fails to say it correctly.
“Ella Bella Rockafella Stella Yelich O’Connor,” he attempts near the end of the segment, a clear failure requiring him to, per his word, do a shot.
