Lamar Jackson has tested positive for COVID-19, Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed Wednesday — one day after veteran players reported to training camp.
The Ravens quarterback previously tested positive for coronavirus on Thanksgiving.
Baltimore running back Gus Edwards also tested positive for COVID-19 while reporting to camp.
“Those two guys will be put under the protocol and that’s really the extent that we can comment on those two guys in that sense at this time,” Harbaugh told reporters.
Per an NFL memo about health and safety protocols concerning COVID-19, if a vaccinated player tests positive and is asymptomatic, the player will be placed in isolation until returning two negative tests 24 hours apart.
Meanwhile, unvaccinated players who test positive are required to follow the league’s 2020 protocols, which include a 10-day isolation period. The player can only return to duty once asymptomatic.
Before his positive diagnosis, Jackson had shown up to training camp a week early, when Ravens rookies were required to report. Last Thursday, he shared a video of himself outside the team’s practice facility and said, “We back. Let’s get start.”
The Ravens and Jackson are working on a long-term deal before he becomes eligible for free agency in 2023. Baltimore already picked up his fifth-year worth $23.016 million.
Jackson, who was selected by the Ravens with the 32nd-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has led Baltimore to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. Though, he’s yet to lead his team past the divisional round.
