Fuel leak forces flight from Newark to Buffalo to make emergency landing

A fuel leak forced a GoJet Airlines flight headed from Newark to Buffalo to make an emergency landing in Rochester on Sunday, according to reports.

Flight 4583 — an 18-year-old Bombardier CRJ-701ER operating as United Express — departed from Newark Liberty International Airport at 4:45 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Buffalo at 5:46 p.m. but diverted to Rochester, according to FlightRadar24.

United told NJ.com that the pilots decided to land about 60 miles east of their destination after they “encountered a possible fuel imbalance.”

The jet, with 55 passengers on board, landed safely on Runway 422, WHAM in Rochester reported.

“The flight landed safely and buses are now shuttling passengers back to the gate. We are making arrangements to get customers to their destinations on a different aircraft,” GoJet spokesman Matthew Modesitt told the station.

The delayed flight later landed in Buffalo at 7:10 p.m., United said.
