A New Jersey firefighter and his wife have been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy inside their home, authorities said.
Luis Morales-Sarmiento, a 33-year-old Beverly City volunteer firefighter, and his 22-year-old wife, Katherine Morales-Sarmiento, surrendered to authorities Monday after the teen’s mother called cops to report the July assault, Burlington County prosecutors said in a statement Wednesday.
A subsequent investigation revealed Luis, who knew the teen, invited him to his home and took the minor into the couple’s bedroom, where the alleged sexual assault occurred, prosecutors and Beverly City police said.
The couple was charged with second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
They were released from custody Tuesday following their initial Superior Court appearance in Mount Holly.
The case is being prepped for presentation to a grand jury.
Investigators asked anyone else who may have been victimized by the couple to contact Burlington County prosecutors at (609) 265-5035.
Attempts to reach the couple were unsuccessful early Thursday. A message left for Beverly City fire officials was not immediately returned.
