Observations from Jets training camp on Thursday.
It’s a start
Robert Saleh expects rookie quarterback Zach Wilson to play “about one quarter” in his first preseason game Saturday against the Giants. “We’re thinking about a quarter, a couple of series for all of [the starters]. … Just kind of get him his first action,” Saleh said.
Can’t catch a break
Injuries to receivers Elijah Moore, who left practice early with a quad issue, and Braxton Berrios, who didn’t participate due to a groin problem, will test the Jets’ depth at the position as the preseason slate begins this weekend.
Caught my eye
Veteran WR Corey Davis had a productive session, hauling in a 40-yard pass from Wilson down the left sideline and a 4-yard touchdown pass from the rookie during a red-zone series.
Zach Wilson’s day
Wilson enjoyed a strong practice overall, although a late two-minute drive ended at the 2-yard line with three consecutive incompletions, including a dropped interception by DB Michael Carter II in the end zone.
Medical report
In addition to Moore and Berrios, Quinnen Williams (foot) worked on the side with trainers and is expected to return to practice next week. OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (pectoral) “is getting closer,” according to Saleh. OT Chuma Edoga underwent arthroscopic knee surgery but could return “towards the end” of camp, Saleh said.
