Toms River East was down to their last out.
Carson Frazier — nephew of former Met and Yankee Todd Frazier — stood at the plate.
Bases loaded. Trailing by two runs. A bid to Williamsport on the line. ESPN cameras rolling.
Frazier delivered in the clutch, lining a shot out to the right-field fence and clearing the bases with a three-run double. He stood on second base and flexed his arms, shouting at the top of his lungs.
He eventually would score himself to make it 6-3, a tally that would go final a half-inning later as Toms River, N.J. earned a bid to the Little League World Series.
“It was a feeling unlike anything I’ve ever felt in my life,” head coach Paul Mika told The Post after the game. “We’ve been dreaming about this for so long and the dream was fulfilled tonight.”
With the win, Toms River East advances to the Regional Final against an Upper Providence team from Oaks, PA., on Saturday. But both teams will advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., because there are no international teams in this year’s tournament.
Saturday’s matchup will be a rematch of Thursday’s winners bracket final, which Upper Providence won 6-1.
It was a remarkable comeback for the team from Toms River, which trailed from the first inning to the last. In the fifth, Toms River successfully loaded the bases but was unable to knock any runners home.
Before the sixth inning, Mika turned to his team and asked a simple question: “You guys ready to go home?”
They replied they weren’t.
“You know what you have to do then,” Mika said he told them.
The sixth-inning rally began with Christopher Tennaro, who smashed a double to left field to put runners at second and third with nobody out. The next batter, Adrian Bilotti, brought home a run with a sacrifice fly. Then came a grounder up the middle and a walk to load the bases for Frazier.
“That was the right man at the right time for the right job,” Mika said. “I thought it was going over the fence. Carson is special, the Frazier family is awesome and their legacy continues now with Carson tonight.”
Little League officials announced Friday that the World Series in Williamsport will be held this year with no fans, because of concerns over the COVID-19 Delta variant. Spectators will be limited to family and friends of the teams, plus select volunteers and supporters.
