It wasn’t exactly a Hollywood ending for the Mets over the weekend against the Dodgers. It was more of a horror film. After losing the first two games in 10 innings, they were embarrassed on the national TV stage on Sunday night, finishing with two position players pitching in the ninth inning in a 14-4 blowout. They were swept by a team that had them beat in every facet of the game. Luis Rojas also had one of the worst managed series you will see this season. Everything went wrong for a Mets team that is now 2 1/2 games out of first place.
To talk about the nightmare series and look ahead to a series against the best team in baseball, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me, featuring a great interview with Mets legend Darryl Strawberry.
Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:
- ROJAS: I open the show going on a rant on all the mistakes made by Luis Rojas (and Dave Jauss) over the weekend. There were a few that may have cost the Mets the games Friday and Saturday and then a few that just flat out didn’t make sense on Sunday. Do the Mets fire Rojas after the season if they miss the playoffs?
- WHAT’S NEXT: Things could go from bad to worse against the Giants this week. Hugh Quattlebaum is clearly not the answer at hitting coach. The Mets will need to find a new one in the offseason. Dodgers outclassed the Mets and showed them why they are a championship contender and the Mets are not.

Darryl Strawberry Interview:
1986 Mets World Series champion, Mets outfielder (1983-1990), eight-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner
- CURRENT METS: They are not doing the little things right. Too many guys not changing their approach and just swinging for home runs. Good teams play team ball and find ways to get runners home and score. Guys need to make adjustments, way too many strikeouts.
- FUTURE: Would he welcome a role to work with the Mets? What does he think of Steve Cohen after chatting with him? What does the future of the franchise hold?
