TBS is looking to turn to a Hall of Fame broadcasting pinch-hitter to host the National League Championship Series between Oct. 15-24, The Post has learned.
Bob Costas and TBS are working toward an agreement that would see him host the network’s marquee MLB event. TBS wanted to alleviate the pressure on TBS’ regular host, Ernie Johnson, as his duties on the acclaimed “Inside the NBA” begin in mid-October. Johnson is expected to host the opening rounds of TBS’ playoff coverage.
Johnson and now potentially Costas will work with Pedro Martinez, Jimmy Rollins and Curtis Granderson.
The timing of the assignment lines up for Costas, as it would fall after he calls MLB Network divisional round games. He also is usually at the World Series for MLB Network.
Costas was honored with the Ford C. Frick Award by the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
TBS is under the same umbrella as HBO and CNN. Costas hosts “Back on the Record” for HBO and is a contributor to CNN’s coverage.
Jeff Zucker, who runs both Turner Sports and CNN, has a very strong relationship with Costas, dating back to Zucker’s first TV job as a researcher for Costas during the 1988 Olympics.
