The woman shot dead on a Brooklyn sidewalk Thursday night was an innocent health-care worker who had been on her way home at the time, police sources said Friday.
The 54-year-old victim was caught in the path of gunfire erupting on the block when she was blasted in the chest on St. Johns Place near Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights around 8:30 p.m., authorities said.
She was taken to the Kings County Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Her name has not been released pending family notification.
A 30-year-old man shot in the arm during the same incident was taken to KCH in stable condition, police said. Cops could not confirm whether he was the intended target but said he was highly uncooperative.
Witnesses saw a man fleeing on foot after the shooting, according to police sources, who said eight shell casings were recovered on scene.
No arrests have been made.
