3 promising teen hockey players die in Canada car crash

Three promising teenage hockey players died when the car they were in crashed into a tree in Canada early Saturday, a report said.

The boys were declared dead at the scene after the violent 2:45 a.m. wreck in Surrey, British Columbia, the Vancouver Sun reported, citing police.

The victims have been identified as 16-year-olds Caleb Reimer and Ronin Sharma, and Parker Magnuson, 17 — all of whom played for the elite Delta Hockey Academy, the report said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fatal wreck, which was witnessed by at least one person, according to authorities.

Reimer last season played in Canada’s Western Hockey League for the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Sharma was an incoming rookie for the Langley Rivermen, who compete in the BC Hockey League, the report said.

The NHL mourned the deaths of the three players in a Sunday statement posted to Twitter.

“The NHL sends its love and deepest condolences to the families of junior hockey players Caleb Reimer, Ronin Sharma and Parker Magnuson who tragically passed away in a car accident on Saturday. Rest in peace boys,” the league said.
