A gunman was arrested for allegedly opening fire Sunday at an apartment door inside the same building that houses the off-Broadway theater Soho Playhouse, sources said.
The 47-year-old suspect knocked on the second-floor apartment door and fired at least five shots after a 39-year-old male resident opened up at about 12:20 p.m., according to sources.
Upon seeing the gun, the resident at the Vandam Street building immediately slammed the door shut preventing him from getting struck by any bullets, according to sources.
Investigators later found five shell casings and as many bullet markings in the door.
The resident called police and later helped the authorities track down the alleged shooter outside of Washington Square Park.
The suspected shooter was arrested and charges against him were pending as of late Sunday, sources said.
The NYPD did not provide information on the shooting.
Soho Playhouse did not immediately return a request for comment.
