Aaron Rodgers is basking in the glory of sticking it to his critics who called him “careless.”
During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday, Green Bay’s star quarterback reflected on the Packers’ wild win over the 49ers on Sunday night, and described it as a “rough night” for “some of those ‘he doesn’t care’ campers.”
Rodgers was excellent in the Packers’ 30-28 Week 3 win against San Francisco. Down a point with 37 seconds to play in the game and no timeouts, Rodgers completed two long passes to star receiver Davante Adams, which set up a 51-yard field goal by Mason Crosby on the final play of the game.
“I love the game, I love competing. There’s nothing like it,” Rodgers said with a smile. “There’s nothing like having the ball in your hands with a chance to win the game, late in the game. That’s what we live for. That’s what we dream about. We don’t dream about kneel-downs at the end of games.”
NFL cameras caught Rodgers’ sideline exuberance as Crosby’s kick sailed through the uprights.
“We dream about … we got to go down and put the ball in position to either win it with a field goal or win it with a touchdown. That’s what we dream about,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers finished the game with 261 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Packers to back-to-back wins. Green Bay beat the Lions 35-17 in Week 2, after a surprising season-opening 38-3 loss to New Orleans.
Ahead of the 2021-22 season, there was doubt about Rodgers’ investment in the team after his standoff with the Packers played out in the public.
Rodgers was a no-show during the offseason due to frustrations with the organization and a lack of say on personnel moves. He eventually reconciled with the team and made it clear he is dedicated to Green Bay.
