Here is some advice for those aghast at what has gone down in the Giants’ 0-3 start to this season and, after the Week 3 stinker — a 17-14 last-second loss to the Falcons — thought to yourself (or shouted to anyone within earshot) “Someone has to get fired for this.”
Find another way to vent. Firing coordinators three games into a season makes no sense.
When failure arrives, people want one face attached to it, one name to blame, one individual the masses can run out of town — a symbol of the ineptitude whose banishment will allow for the appearance of accountability, even if it doesn’t fix what’s wrong. With the Giants nowadays, that one person is offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. His “attack” averaged 17.5 points a game in 2020; only the Jets scored fewer points. What was supposed to be a new and improved cast of characters, with the additions of receiver Kenny Golladay and tight end Kyle Rudolph in free agency, Kadarius Toney in the NFL Draft and the return of Saquon Barkley from ACL surgery, has not yet generated any meaningful scoring bump. The Giants are averaging 18.7 points in their three losses.
