A 16-year-old girl was shot in the head by a stray bullet while hanging out with friends at a playground in Brooklyn on Friday, police sources said.
The shooter opened fire around 3 p.m. near the Gowanus Houses in Boerum Hill, with a bullet mistakenly hitting the teen while she sat on a bench, according to sources.
The gunman and some cronies, dressed all in black, fled on Citi Bikes down Nevins Street, the sources said.
The teen, Kyla Sobers, was undergoing brain surgery New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital late Friday, her grandfather said.
“That is my granddaughter. She’s in surgery right now,” the distraught man said, without giving his name.
“They’re trying to take the fragments of the bullet out of her head,” he added, before he was ushered away by his wife.
No arrests were made.
Minutes later, in an apparently unrelated incident, someone fired off shots at a car on Flatbush and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn – striking a 21-year-old passenger in the arm, according to sources.
The victim and another person ran from the car, sources said. The driver was taken into custody, and a gun was allegedly found inside the vehicle.
Another teenager was injured in a shooting in Brooklyn Friday night, according to sources.
The 16-year-old boy was struck once in his left leg during an argument at Prospect Plaza Park in Brownsville just after 9:45 p.m., the sources said. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital and expected to recover.
Investigators recovered 11 .380 caliber shell casings from the scene and were canvassing for video.
