Nothing says “doing just fine” like a $9.5 million Los Angeles mansion.
The Killers co-founder and guitarist Dave Keuning — known for hits like “Mr. Brightside” — rejoined Mitt Romney’s favorite rock band this spring after a four-year solo career.
As he plans a seventh and eighth album with co-founder Brandon Flowers, 40, the 45-year-old axe-slinger is celebrating with a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom Mediterranean mansion, according to Dirt.
The 2000s-era Top 40 radio staple bought his new 8,385-square-foot home from Joel Simkhai, the 37-year-old founder of Grindr, the popular dating app for gay, bi, trans and queer people.
The mansion represented a significant step for Simkhai at the time, too: he bought the mansion days before selling off Grindr for a combined $245 million (in two transactions) and relinquishing his role at the company, which more recently sold for over $600 million.
But Simkhai has since traded up to an even bigger $13 million Los Angeles home — plus he recently collected $29.5 million on a New York City penthouse — leaving his initial post-Grindr digs up for grabs.
Keuning swooped in and closed the sale in August for $9.57 million. It was a $1 million loss for Simkhai, who spent $10.5 million on the property in December 2017.
Inside, the house has a soaring, two-story foyer, wood-beamed ceilings, four fireplaces and arched doorways. The dining room has embossed tin ceiling panels.
There is a wine lounge, a family room and a gourmet kitchen with an island and a breakfast room. Plus, there is a media room, a studio, a recreation room, according to Realtor.com.
The gated 0.37-acre lot has a private garden, a motor court, an infinity-edge pool and hot tub, two garages and maid’s quarters.
The house, built in 1989, was remodeled in 2017 before Simkhai’s purchase.
Jory Burton with Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills Brokerage had the listing. Boni Bryant with Compass represented Keuning.
Real estate records show that the house is now owned by the La Presa Outpost MBTI Trust, of which Keuning is reportedly the beneficiary.
Keuning previously flipped a house he sold to Buzzfeed CEO Jonah Peretti for $5.2 million in January 2020. He also has homes near San Diego and Las Vegas.
