As a posthumous celebration of the late rock icon, the David Bowie Estate is launching a yearlong celebration to honor his 75th birthday, including pop-up shops in New York City and London.
Beginning Oct. 25 — 75 days ahead of what would have been Bowie’s 75th birthday on Jan. 8 — pop-up “retail experiences” are opening at 150 Wooster St. in Manhattan and 14 Heddon St. in London.
The “experiential” shops promise visitors a “career-spanning deep dive into the sound and vision of David Bowie,” according to the late artist’s Web site. There will be audio installations, screening rooms and hours of video content — “including previously unseen behind-the-scenes material, rare footage from the Heathen and Reality eras and more.”
Naturally, there will be limited-edition merchandise available for purchase, ranging from apparel and collectibles to limited-run LPs and CDs. There also will be gallery installations on Bowie and iconic costumes ready for fans to put on and create “fun and shareable social media moments.”
Special guest events are set to be announced soon.
The retail shops are just part of the large celebration of Bowie’s 75th his estate is planning, which includes the release of a posthumous album next year.
The legendary rocker passed away in 2016 shortly after his 69th birthday following a secret battle with cancer.
