Dads find creative way to combat violence at Louisiana high school

Looks like father does know best.

A group of dads sprang into action following a major outbreak of violence at a Louisiana high school — and brought peace back to the campus.

“Dads on Duty,” a squad of about 40 fathers from Southwood High School in Shreveport, are getting credit for calming things down after 23 students were arrested in just three days in a series of brawls at the school, CBS News said.

“We’re dads,” group founder Michael LaFitte told the outlet. “We decided the best people who can take care of our kids are who? Are us.”

Violence erupted at the 2,200-student school last month — including a Sept. 16 melee that landed 14 kids in handcuffs, the outlet reported.

Disturbing footage posted on Twitter by CBS shows several students wailing on each other as dozens of others stand by and watch.

Several students were expelled and others were suspended in connection to the fights, according to a Fox News report.

That’s when the dads stepped in, taking shifts to patrol the school, keeping eyes on their kids and troublemakers in the building.

LaFitte said “Dad’s on Duty” relied on the combination of tough love and good old humiliation.

“They hate it!” LaFitte said, referring to the students. “They’re so embarrassed by it.”

But for many students, it’s a welcome dose of fatherly love.

“The school has just been happy,” one student told Fox. “And you can feel it.”

The dads are now thinking of taking their show on the road and are considering launching various chapters throughout the state.
