Three abandoned children, human remains found in apartment
Three children were found Sunday living without parents alongside human remains in a Houston apartment, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies made the shocking discovery during a welfare check at a unit in an apartment complex on the outskirts of the city at 3535 Green Crest, KTRK reported, citing Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The abandoned children are ages 15, 10, and 7 — and investigators believe the oldest child cared for the other two, the report said.
The remains are believed to belong to another minor — possibly a sibling of one of the children, authorities said.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long the children lived alone, or if they attended school.
Gonzalez called the situation “heartbreaking” in a tweet announcing the news.
Investigators are seeking to speak to any adults who may be related to the trio, who are now in the custody of the county, the report said.
