As if things could get any worse for the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes was helped off the field after taking a hit to the head during a sack in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 27-3 loss to the Titans. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said after the game that Mahomes cleared concussion protocol. Reid said it was his decision to keep Mahomes out of the game.
The Chiefs fell to 3-4 after losing to Tennessee — a nadir of the Mahomes era. Mahomes was having an abysmal game before getting hurt, going 20-of-35 for 206 yards and an interception, with no touchdowns. The sack on which he got hurt was Tennessee’s fourth of the game. Kansas City hosts the Giants next week on “Monday Night Football.”
Chad Henne was in the game at quarterback for the next Kansas City drive.
Mahomes led the NFL in passing touchdowns coming into this week, with 18, and the Chiefs ranked second in total offense. But their defense was 28th, struggling in losses to Baltimore, Philadelphia and Buffalo.
