Joe Buck may have gone a little too far this time.
Speaking on the “SmartLess” podcast, the World Series broadcaster and Pro Football Hall of Famer told a story of a time he urinated while calling an NFL touchdown. Did we need to know that story? Honestly, no. But here it is anyway.
“I have peed in a bottle while calling an NFL touchdown, I swear to god,” Buck said on the podcast. “I was peeing in a trash can and they handed me a little water bottle. … We came back from a break and I was peeing and the action started. And I called a touchdown while urine was coming out of me.”
Buck said this happened during a Packers-Falcons game at Milwaukee County Stadium. According to Mediaite, that pegs the date at 1994.
Of course, the story also begs the question of why Buck was peeing in a trash can to begin with. Yes, he was presumably worried (rightfully) that if he went to the bathroom, the game would resume before he got back.
But commercial breaks are timed. Surely Buck could have timed his bathroom break with the commercial.
In any case, all we can do is hope Buck is taking those steps now.
