Painters left dangling on Thailand high-rise after woman cuts safety rope: cops

A woman allegedly cut a rope supporting two painters working on her high-rise condo in Thailand — leaving them dangling hundreds of feet in the air — because she was angry she wasn’t informed before they started the job, police said Wednesday.

Pulse-pounding footage of the Oct. 12 incident shows the workers hanging precariously by the 26th floor of the building near Bangkok, asking residents to open the window and let them in.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on attempted murder and property destruction charges, Colonel Pongjak Preechakarunpong, chief of the Pak Kret police said.

The woman at first denied she was responsible but confessed after police sent the severed rope for a fingerprint and DNA analysis, local media reported.

“This incident is shocking and should not happen at all,” said Praphaiwan Setsing, a resident who helped save the painters.

One worker, a Myanmar national identified as Song, said he and two other men were lowering themselves down from the 32nd floor when they realized they were unstable and began calling for help.

Eventually, Setsing and her husband spotted them and helped pull them to safety, she said.

Authorities did not say what prompted the woman to snip the rope, but local media reported that she was apparently angered when the painters appeared outside her room — and she hadn’t seen an announcement by the condo’s management.

The suspect, who claimed she didn’t mean to kill the workers, faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of attempted murder.
