Five-time American Music Awards winner Cardi B is secured to be the host of the awards show this year.
“When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited,” the 29-year-old said in a statement. “I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage.”
Airing Nov. 21, the “WAP” rapper is also nominated for more awards this year, including favorite hip-hop song and video for “Up” and favorite hip-hop artist.
The NYC native made AMA history in the past as the first female rapper to win favorite hip-hop song twice. With another win in that category, she could make it three.
Fans naturally took to Twitter to express their excitement about seeing their favorite rapper on-screen.
“Cardi just saved the AMA’s,” tweeted one fan.
“I haven’t watched the full award show in years, but THIS is something I tune into from start to finish,” wrote another.
This marks the first time Cardi will host the AMAs, which will air from Los Angeles on ABC. In 2018, Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, performed “I Like It” at the AMAs alongside J Balvin and Bad Bunny,
Other A-list stars head into the AMAs with a slew of nominations, including pop star Olivia Rodrigo, who leads with seven nominations, notably for artist of the year. The rising singer is up against other fan favorites such as Taylor Swift and the Weeknd.
For the first time in the award show’s history, Dick Clark Productions will be adopting a co-producing partner — Jesse Collins Entertainment — alongside the company’s signature producers, Deadline reported.
In June, Cardi revealed at the 2021 BET Awards that she and husband Offset are expecting. The couple, who wed in a secret ceremony in 2017, are already parents to 3-year-old daughter, Kulture.
