Ah, November — a month where darkness comes earlier, many people opt out of shaving, and everyone fills up on turkey. On TV, there’s a slew of new shows coming out.
It will be a month of badly behaving shrinks, college girls on dating adventures, intergalactic bounty hunters, the least powerful Avenger trying to prove that he can carry his own show, and the return of the infamous Tiger King.
Here’s the essential TV to keep an eye out for.
“Head of the Class”
This reboot of the ABC comedy (1986-91) is executive produced by Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso,” “Scrubs”) and stars Isabella Gomez (“One day At a Time”) as a teacher who wants her students to focus more on life than grades. Robin Givens, who starred as the student Darlene on the origina showl, returns to play one of the parents.

“Tampa Baes”
Scratch your reality TV show itch with this new show following a group of friends in Florida. The hook is that they’re all a young lesbian “it” crowd — so settle in for a reality version of “The L Word.”

“Dexter: New Blood”
If you were unsatisfied with the ending of Showtime’s serial killer hit “Dexter,” it’s getting a do-over. The first show ran from 2006-2013 and followed Dexter (Michael C. Hall), a serial killer who targeted other killers and also worked for the Miami police dept. Picking up a decade after the events of “Dexter” (which inexplicably ended with him becoming a lumberjack), “New Blood” follows Dexter as his new life in the small town of Iron Lake, New York gets shaken up.
Premiere date: November 7th on Showtime (9 p.m.)
“Yellowjackets”
If you want a show that’s a dash of “Lost” mixed with all-girls “Lord of the Flies,” plus a show about women in their 40s living complicated lives full of secrets a la “Big Little Lies,” then this is the show for you. With a cast including Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Melanie Lynskey, “Yellowjackets” follows an all-girls soccer team as they get stranded in the wilderness and dissolve into savage clans — and the lives they’re trying to reclaim two decades later.
Premiere date: Nov 14th on Showtime (10 p.m.)
“Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman”
Hosted by Freeman, this docuseries dives into famous prison escapes from institutions such as Alcatraz and Dannemora. From the planning stage to the manhunts afterwards, episodes tell the stories through a mix of visual effects and dramatic recreations.
Premiere date: November 9th on the History Channel (10 p.m.)
“The Sex Lives of College Girls”
Think “Sex and the City” meets “Girls,” for the Gen-Z era. Co-created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), this comedy follows four roommates at the fictional Essex College in New England as they have dating adventures. The series stars Pauline Chalamet (yes, Timothee’s sister), Amrit Kaur, Renee Rapp, and Alya Chanelle Scott.

“The Shrink Next Door”
Co-starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd as a shrink (Rudd) who gets into an odd and toxic relationship with his client (Ferrell), this dark comedy is inspired by a true story (and a podcast of the same name).

“Tiger King 2”
The bizarre saga of the incarcerated gay polygamist zookeeper Joe Exotic and his murder-for-hire plot against his rival Carole Baskin returns. Was the “Tiger King” docuseries a one-hit-wonder born from early pandemic delirium, or is there still interest in this story? We’ll all find out.

“The Wheel of Time”
The latest epic fantasy show to shoot its shot at trying to become the next “Game of Thrones” is here. Starring Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl,”) it’s based off a series of 14 novels that first published in 1990.

“Cowboy Bebop”
For the Comic Con crowd, this sci-fi epic starring John Cho is a live-action show based on a hit anime series of the same name and follows a ragtag group of bounty hunters chasing criminals through the solar system.

“Hawkeye”
MCU shows are pop culture juggernauts, but does Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), the least exciting Avenger, have what it takes to carry his own show? He might, with the help of new character Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who’s taking over the mantle of Hawkeye.
