Dating show ‘Love Trap’ dumps eliminated contestants through a literal trapdoor
It’s being dubbed the “Squid Game” of dating shows.
Brutal British reality program “The Love Trap” sees female contestants dramatically dropped through a trapdoor when they’re eliminated by a male suitor.
The new series — which began airing in the UK late last month — features 12 women vying for the affections of hunky personal trainer David Birtwistle.
However, only six of the women are actually on the show to find love, while the others are all in relationships and are simply trying to trick Birtwistle into believing they’re single.
In the end, if Birtwistle picks one of the women who are already in a relationship outside of the show, she’ll walk away with a cash prize — and he’ll walk away with a broken heart.
British dating shows have gained huge traction in the US, with “Love Island” becoming a bona fide smash and spawning its own US edition, airing on CBS.
While “Love Trap” is not available on any American streaming services at present, it’s gained the attention of many locals on social media.
Video showing contestant J’harie J’adore being dropped down the trapdoor after elimination has gone viral on Twitter.
“Woke my boyfriend up at 5:30am to show him this cos I was howling,” one amused viewer tweeted.

“I just gasped… she gone!” another Twitter user chimed in.
“May she rest [in peace],” a third viewer joked.
Thankfully, J’adore survived the dramatic drop and revealed she was actually one of the “love traps” — a k a someone in a relationship trying to trick Birtwistle in order to win some cash.
“I am actually in a relationship. I have been with my partner for the last six years,” she confessed after her elimination.
“We actually conjured up this whole kind of lie together, because what we really wanted was money for a mortgage.”
The series continues in the UK, with Birtwistle showing one of the women the (trap) door at elimination each and every week.
