Houston-area officials have decided to launch an internal review into the cause of the Astroworld music festival tragedy — despite a proposal by a top elected official for a third-party probe.
The review into what led to the 10 deaths at the Travis Scott-founded and headlined event will be led by the Harris County administrator in conjunction with other city and county entities.
Investigators will look over security, fire and other safety plans at the county-owned venue where the festival took place — NRG Park.
Hundreds of people were also injured, with at least 25 hospitalized, when a crush of concertgoers trampled others during the packed Nov. 5 show.
County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the top elected official in Harris County, had sought an outside investigation.
“I hope that it comes back with actionable lessons,” Hidalgo said. “I hope it doesn’t result in something vague or forgotten.”
A separate criminal investigation is also being conducted by Houston police.
No one has been charged, but dozens of lawsuits have been filed over deaths and injuries at the concert.
