Tom Brady’s mood wasn’t much better day after bolting press conference
Much like other sports legends, Tom Brady hates losing more than he loves winning.
This has been clear for about two decades but was on display once again Sunday when Brady bolted from his press conference after just one minute following Tampa Bay’s loss to the Washington Football Team. The 44-year-old quarterback was still stewing Monday during his “Let’s Go!” SiriusXM podcast with broadcaster Jim Gray.
“Maybe we should make this a Friday show because Mondays after losses suck,” Brady opened. “There is not too many great things to talk about. ‘Let’s Go!’ on Friday afternoons.”
Gray brought up Sunday’s presser and how Brady did not want to answer questions because the wounds of losing were still so fresh, not to mention how the feelings tended to blend into their Monday shows after losses.
“I think it’s a real challenge for me because the expectations are so high,” Brady said. “When you win it is a relief, when you lose it is a real disappointment. Sometimes, you are missing the joy in this and I have to be reminded of the joy of playing.
“That takes a little perspective. It’s hard when you are in the middle of the fight … because you want to go out there and slug it out again. There was a lot of great to come from losing and there is some perspective but sometimes on Monday you really piss me off, just kidding.”
There are times on Brady’s shows when the quarterback talks with the jargon of a self-help coach, notably his response to Gray about being receptive to criticism after head coach Bruce Arians called the Buccaneers “a very dumb football team” following the loss to Washington.
“Hopefully, we are all very receptive to it,” Brady said. “What you really need is the truth. You arrive the next day and you look at each other and you say, ‘We are the problem. We win as one, we lose as one.’ There is not point to pointing fingers at anyone or anything.”
The Buccaneers (6-3) have now lost two in a row and will be back in the national spotlight this coming week on “Monday Night Football” against the New York Giants (3-6).
