BMW driver fatally shot, teen passenger wounded in the Bronx: cops
A 21-year-old driver was fatally shot in the head and his teen passenger wounded as they sat in a BMW in The Bronx late Sunday, police said.
Sergio Jimenez and the 18-year-old woman were inside the Beemer at East 171st Street and Townsend Avenue in Mount Eden around 10:15 p.m. when cops believe two suspects approached from the passenger side and opened fire, authorities said.
Jimenez was shot in the head, and the teen, who was in the passenger seat, was struck in the hand and back, cops said.
Responding cops found Jimenez slumped over in the driver’s seat, police said.
They thought the BMW was in park, so they pulled him out — but it turned out his foot had just been on the brake, police sources said.
The BMW rolled forward, ran over Jimenez’s arm and also hit a police car, the sources said.
“So he wasn’t just shot,” a source said. “He was run over.”
EMS workers brought Jimenez to BronxCare Health System, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the injured teen in the car — whose relationship to Jimenez was not immediately clear — got out of the Beemer to flag down a good Samaritan, who brought her to the same hospital, cops said.
She was listed in stable condition.
A gun was recovered “in the vicinity” of Jimenez in the car, police sources said.
No arrests had been made by Monday.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
