Eric Adams is taking advice from Miami’s mayor on Twitter and crypto

Mayor-Elect Eric Adams is looking to raise his Twitter game — and has turned to Miami Mayor Francis Suarez for help, On The Money has learned.

Adams, who is slated to take the helm of New York City on Jan. 1, doesn’t manage his own Twitter account, and barely knows how to tweet despite racking up 74,500 followers as of Monday, according to sources close to the situation.

Accordingly, Adams lately has been plying Suarez (127,000 followers as of Monday) for tips on how to engage with the Twitterati — particularly in the crypto community, sources say.

Suarez, for his part, runs his account himself and doesn’t seek approval before firing off tweets that can occasionally go viral — for example his Nov. 2 post saying he would take his paycheck in “100% in bitcoin,” according to a source close to Suarez.

Meanwhile, some critics said Adams never looked more in need of social-media advice than he did two days later, when he responded to Suarez’s bitcoin tweet by not only making the same odd pledge, but also effectively tripling it.

“In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor,” Adams tweeted Nov. 4. “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!”

Adams and Suarez lately are “in touch” and have been “very friendly” over the last few months, according to a well-placed source. The two men first met when Adams flew to Miami in August to record an episode of Suarez’s podcast “Cafecito Talk.”

The sparring began shortly thereafter when Adams suggested in a September interview he would fly to Miami and lure back New Yorkers who fled to warmer weather during coronavirus.

“The mayor-elect and Mayor Suarez have a friendly rivalry and have spoken several times about cryptocurrency,” Evan Thies, Adams’ spokesman, told The Post. “He looks forward to the continued competition when he is mayor and getting New Yorkers back to New York!”

Suarez is expected to fly up to New York for Adam’s first day as mayor on Jan. 1. Likewise, Adams is expected to fly to Miami on Jan. 3 when Suarez is sworn in as president of the US Conference of Mayors.

Separately last month, Adams raised eyebrows when he hitched a ride to Puerto Rico on bitcoin billionaire Brock Pierce’s private Gulfstream jet. The mayor-elect told reporters in San Juan that he had paid for the trip himself.

“Before the question is asked, I paid my own way. I learned the best way to tell people to mind their business is to come out your pocket and cut your own check, so I’m here on my time,” Adams said at the time, according to Politico. “It’s on my dollar, my dime and my time.”
