Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo marked his birthday with a tiny party attended by one of his daughters — and two guests who attended via cellphone video, according to a photo he posted online Tuesday.
The Instagram image shows Cuomo, who turned 64 on Monday, looking scruffy and wearing a dark V-neck top while seated in front of a cake surrounded by brownies and covered with blazing candles and sparklers.
Youngest daughter Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo, 24, sat nearby with her hands clasped, and a cellphone propped behind the cake shows a split screen of what appears to be Cuomo’s two other daughters, 26-year-old twins Cara Kennedy-Cuomo and Mariah Kennedy Cuomo.
“Thank you for all the birthday wishes!” Cuomo wrote in a caption.
The lonely celebration was a far cry from last year, when Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie Perez, Ben Stiller and Henry Winkler were the featured guests at a virtual birthday celebration and campaign fundraiser for Cuomo, then still riding high on the popularity of his COVID-19 pandemic briefings.
But within months, a sexual harassment scandal turned the third-term Democrat into a pariah and forced him to resign in August in the face of an all-but-certain impeachment.
Next month, he’s scheduled for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of forcible touching in the alleged groping of former aide Brittany Commisso, 33.
Cuomo has denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, documents released last week by Attorney General Letitia James showed how Cuomo’s younger brother, Chris Cuomo, 51, secretly contacted news industry “sources” about potentially damaging stories and tried to dig up dirt on at least one accuser.
The revelations led to Chris Cuomo’s suspension as the host of CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” and his firing four days later, after the network learned about an allegation of unspecified sexual misconduct involving a former female colleague at ABC News.
Chris Cuomo’s spokesman has said that “these apparently anonymous allegations are not true.”
Some of the Instagram users who posted comments about Andrew Cuomo’s birthday photo exulted over his downfall.
“Hope your birthday was bad! Honestly,” wrote one commenter.
“Someone else who agrees with me,” another chimed in.
Others attacked Andrew Cuomo while invoking the insulting “Fredo” nickname bestowed on his brother, which likens him to the sniveling Corleone sibling in the classic mob movie “The Godfather.”
“Happy Birthday predator Cuomo! What are you and Fredo doing with all your free time?!” one wrote.
