Ryan Clark compares Bill Belichick to God in bizarre ESPN moment

After the Patriots beat the Bills 14-10 on “Monday Night Football,” Ryan Clark did more than just heap praise on Bill Belichick.

Clark compared him to God.

After the former NFL safety-turned ESPN analyst declared Belichick as “the greatest of all time” on Scott Van Pelt’s “SportsCenter” following the Patriots’ crucial AFC East win, Clark said Belichick “understands how to build football teams in his likeness and image. You know the only other person they talked about building things in his likeness and image? It was in the Bible — it was God.”

Clark, 42, responded to a tweet about his comments Tuesday morning by writing, “I was clean as hell!”

Belichick and the Patriots won their seventh straight game in Buffalo’s wintry weather conditions, which included 40 miles-per-hour winds. He joined George Halas as the second coach ever with 19 road wins against a single opponent after defeating the Bills.

But some fans thought Clark’s Biblical comparison was a bit over the top.

One person joked, “Ryan Clark trying to get invited to dinner with Belichick.”

Another tweeted, “Now I’ve seen it all, Ryan Clark just compared Bill Belichick to God on SVP.”

After a 2-4 start to the season cast a cloud of doubt over New England, the Patriots are now atop the AFC.

Rookie quarterback Mac Jones has been a standout in his draft class, and managed to lead the Pats to a win on Monday despite having completed just 2 of 3 passes on the night. The Patriots ran 46 times for 222 yards and threw three times for 19 yards — making it the fewest passes attempted by any team in a game since 1974.

New England’s defense has been elite, allowing the fewest points per game (15.4) in the NFL.

Critics counted out Belichick and the Patriots after Tom Brady’s exit to Tampa Bay in March 2020. The star quarterback and the veteran coach won six Super Bowls together, but Brady won No. 7 in his first year away.

The Patriots (9-4) have a bye in Week 14 before they visit the Colts on Dec. 18.
