11-year-old boy saves choking classmate, woman from burning home — all in one day

He’s a wunderkind of a new breed.

An 11-year-old Oklahoma boy is being hailed for his heroism after saving his choking classmate and rescuing a woman from a burning building — all in the same day.

Davyon Johnson jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver on a choking classmate at the 6th & 7th Grade Academy in Muskogee on Dec. 9.

The classmate had been using his mouth to loosen the cap of his water bottle when the lid slipped into his throat, principal Latricia Dawkins told the Enid News.

Davyon sprinted over to help when he realized the student was choking.

He wrapped his arms around his classmate and kept thrusting until the bottle cap was dislodged.

“He has always indicated that he wants to be an EMT,” his principal said. “So he got to put that desire into action and immediately saved that young man.”

Davyon said he learned the Heimlich maneuver after watching videos on YouTube.

After school that same day, Davyon spotted a home that was on fire and noticed a disabled woman on the porch trying to get away from the flames.

The sixth-grader rushed over and helped the woman get to her nearby car.

He said the fire started at the back of the home but eventually engulfed the front of the house as well.

As a result of Davyon’s actions, local law enforcement named him an honorary police officer and honorary sheriff’s deputy during the Muskogee Public Schools Board meeting Tuesday night.

His school also presented him with a heroism award.
