Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll could be heading toward Seahawks breakup

It could be the end of an era in Seattle on Sunday. There’s a widespread feeling in the NFL that Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll will no longer be together next season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, making Sunday’s game against the Lions their last home game together.

A trade has long been rumored for Wilson, who has publicly expressed frustration with the organization in the past. Those rumors are likely to come up again, per Schefter.

“I know for me personally, I hope it’s not my last game [in Seattle],” Wilson told reporters this week. “But at the same time, I know it won’t be my last game in the NFL.”

A win on Sunday would tie Carroll and Wilson for the most home victories by a coach/quarterback duo since 2012, with 62.

Carroll is under contract through 2025, adding to the perception that Wilson is the more likely of the two to leave, though he is 70 years old. Wilson, 33, has said he wants to stay in Seattle but opened his no-trade clause to the Cowboys, Bears, Saints, and Raiders last offseason. The Post confirmed last month Wilson would consider waiving the clause for the Giants.

According to Schefter, some believe that general manager John Schneider is open to tearing down but may want to maximize their chances of winning with a quarterback like Wilson.

Entering Sunday at 5-10, the Seahawks will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2011 and are in need of retooling. Wilson, who missed three games in October with a finger injury, said this week he wants to win three more Super Bowls before retiring.

“Obviously we can’t do it not being in the playoffs right now,” Wilson said. “But I think that most importantly, it takes a lot of effort, it takes a lot of things, it takes a lot of pieces. I think we have a good amount of those pieces, a lot of them. It’s been a tough season.”
