Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs arrested for DUI

Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs was arrested for driving under the influence early Monday morning in Las Vegas.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Hobbs was asleep at the wheel on a parking lot exit ramp at 4:09 a.m. on Monday. Hobbs was given a field sobriety test and failed. He was taken to Clark County Detention Center where he was booked for DUI at 6:38 a.m.

Hobbs has a court date set for May, per TMZ.

Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia told reporters that nothing has been decided yet with Hobbs’ status on the team.

“We’re just trying to collect as much information as we possibly can on what exactly happened, and what the situation is and where he’s at with that,” Bisaccia told reporters.

In a statement to TMZ, Hobbs’ lawyers David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld said, “The facts and circumstances related by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to the news and media leave serious concerns that this does not qualify as a DUI under Nevada law.”

Hobbs, a rookie out of Illinois, has started nine games for the Raiders this year. He made four tackles in Sunday’s win at the Colts in Indianapolis.

Las Vegas cut Henry Ruggs earlier in the year following a fiery car crash that resulted in the in the death of a 23-year old woman for what he has been charged with felony DUI. The team also saw coach Jon Gruden resign after year-old emails containing offensive language came to light and released cornerback Damon Arnette after he made disturbing threats while brandishing a gun in a video.

“As far as the distractions go, we’ve kind of learned how to deal with distractions around here,” Bisaccia said. “We’re certainly disappointed in the news. I don’t have all the facts yet. I’ll be able to comment, I would think, as the end of the week comes, when I get more information about what’s going to actually happen with that.”
