Man arrested in cold-blooded murder of teen Burger King worker
The suspected killer who allegedly gunned down a 19-year-old woman as she worked behind the counter at an East Harlem Burger King was busted by cops Friday for the cold-blooded slaying, police said.
Winston Glynn, 30, — who previously worked at the same eatery — was hit with with first-degree murder and robbery charges, days after Kristal Bayron-Nieves was shot dead at the fast-food joint at East 116th Street and Lexington Avenue, cops said.
Though Glynn worked in the past at the same Burger King where Bayron-Nieves was shot to death early Sunday morning, police don’t believe he targeted her specifically.
Police tracked him down by reviewing “extensive” video footage that captured the suspect carrying a backpack and wearing white headphones.
They then traced the video footage to a store in Manhattan where Glynn — who also worked at another Burger King — used an EBT card prior to the slaying, police officials told reporters at a briefing Friday.
Mayor Eric Adams attended the press conference and said he felt compelled to comment on the case because of the cold-blooded nature of the killing.
“When I visited her mother, just sort of the pain of the face, how much this tore her apart. We don’t see those cries, you don’t see the pain often,” he said.
“I don’t come to press conferences of arrests,” he added. “This one was so personal for a cold-blooded killer to shoot a 19-year-old child after she complied.”
Glynn shouted obscenities and said “America is gonna burn!” as he was walked out of the 25th Precinct in Harlem Friday afternoon.
Glynn, whose address is listed as a Queens Days Inn that also serves as a homeless shelter, is not a US citizen and is from Jamaica, police sources said.
His social media posts also showed him wearing the same clothes he wore the day of the deadly shooting, the sources said.
The deadly incident unfolded around 1 a.m. Sunday, when an armed robber walked in and pistol-whipped a male customer before punching a female manager in the face, cops said.
“Give me the cash!” he demanded, while pointing a gun at Bayron-Nieves, according to a police source.
“She was having trouble opening the drawer,” the source said.
When she got it open, Bayron-Nieves handed the robber the cash.
“When she looked at him, he put the gun down,” the source said. “When she looked away, he shot her.”
Bayron-Nieves was crouching behind a second register when Glynn allegedy shot her to death, police officials said Friday.
The teenager – who had started the job three weeks earlier – was taken to Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, cops said.
The killer got away with just $100, the victim’s family said.
Glynn has a number of previous arrests, including a bust for menacing with a weapon at the Jamaica homeless shelter where he’s been living, police sources said.
During the Nov. 30, 2021 incident, Glynn allegedly grabbed a screwdriver after getting into a fight with someone else at the shelter, the sources said.
“I will stab you,” he allegedly threatened the victim.
His other busts included a criminal possession of a weapon arrest in December 2020, another menacing charge in 2018 and a criminal mischief arrest in 2017, police sources said.
An Oct. 14 selfie on Glynn’s Instagram, reviewed by investigators, shows him in a Burger King uniform.
His most recent posts, from Thursday, show homeless people sleeping on the subway, as well as a screenshot of Bible verses.
