Now this is just awkward.
LSU football coach Brian Kelly must be cringing after Wednesday’s news that his tight end recruit, Danny Lewis committed to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Tigers’ SEC rivals.
The move came after Kelly went viral for his questionable dance moves in a recent TikTok video with Lewis, who held up the Tigers’ “L” symbol while the LSU coach danced around him.
Alabama confirmed the addition of Lewis, a Westgate High School product, in an Instagram post shared Wednesday. The Louisiana native then took to Instagram with a video modeling the Crimson Tide’s red and white uniform.
At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, Lewis is a 3-star prospect and the No. 40 tight end in the nation, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He was committed to Cincinnati until Jan. 12, and also visited Florida before committing to Alabama.
After the video’s release, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin poked fun at Kelly in a tweet, writing, “Did you lose a bet or something @CoachBrianKelly?? This can’t be real.”
Kelly doesn’t appear to be bothered by critics given he filmed a separate December hype video with quarterback Walker Howard, a five-star recruit out of St. Thomas More High in Louisiana, and an LSU commit.
Last November, Kelly shook the college coaching circuit when he bolted from Notre Dame after 12 years to sign a deal with LSU worth a reported $100 million over 10 years.
He replaced former Tigers coach Ed Orgeron, who agreed to a buyout with LSU in October and went on to finish the season.
