NY’s COVID positive rate falls below 4 percent for first time since November

The single-day COVID-19 positivity rate has fallen below 4 percent in New York for the first time since Nov. 26., Gov. Kathy Hochul said Saturday.

Of the 192,754 test results reported Friday, 7,246 — or 3.76 percent — were positive, Hochul said.

Friday’s positivity rate, when measured on a seven-day average, stood at 4.87 percent statewide and 3.09 percent in New York City, the lowest in the state.

There were 5,466 people hospitalized with the virus across the state Friday, the lowest number since Christmas, Hochul said.

“As we come down from the peak of Omicron, it is clear that New Yorkers are doing the right things to keep each other safe and healthy,” Hochul said. 

Deaths fell below 100 to 91 including 44 among New York City residents.
