Former President Bill Clinton has praised so-called vegan Mayor Eric Adams over his push for New Yorkers to adopt a more plant-based diet.
“Making a plant-based diet more accessible and achievable will not only help reduce our shared healthcare costs, but help more people feel better in their daily lives,” the former president tweeted on Monday.
“I can speak from personal experience! Well done, @NYCMayor,” he added.
Clinton, who has followed a plant-based diet for several years to protect his heart, tweeted his support for Adams as the mayor touted a new plant-based lifestyle medicine program to be rolled out in New York City hospitals.
The former president revealed in a 2016 interview that he would follow a 100 percent plant-based diet — but his doctor had requested him to eat organic salmon once a week.
“I do, but I’d just as soon be without it. The vegan diet is what I like the best,” Clinton told Politico at the time.
Meanwhile, Adams — who has previously claimed to be vegan — spent Monday morning refusing to reveal his dietary habits in the wake of reports he’d repeatedly been spotted eating fish at NYC restaurants.
Hizzoner came clean hours later — admitting that he sometimes eats fish.
“Let me be clear: Changing to a plant-based diet saved my life, and I aspire to be plant-based 100 percent of the time,” Adams said in a statement.
“I want to be a role model for people who are following or aspire to follow a plant-based diet, but, as I said, I am perfectly imperfect, and have occasionally eaten fish.”
